    There are many resource packs/clients that have this feature for free. I personally don't see a need for it to be in the main game because it could be distracting. It is also very pvp focused and many players don't do much pvp so it could be annoying to them. If this was a toggle in settings I could see it maybe making it into the game but I don't think it is very "minecrafty" by default. it just seems out of place in my opinion.
