Hey Mojang,
Just wanted to send over the clean notes for the upgraded ocean biome concept! I love how we watered down the ideas to keep it perfectly in line with how Minecraft actually builds its world.
Here’s the quick recap of the final roster:
- The Passives: Whales, starfish, and sea lions are purely for vibe and utility (like sea lions guiding you to shipwrecks). Penguins are the only ones here that shed anything, molting Down Feathers on the ice.
- The Neutrals: Real-world predators like sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, and orcas stay neutral. Sharks will drop a Shark Tooth on the seafloor when they bite prey, and crabs will leave behind an Old Carapace on the beach, but the rest don’t clutter the ocean floor with drops. You can still scoop jellyfish up in a bucket for a portable light source, though!
- The Hostiles: Since Minecraft rules say hostiles have to be fantasy, we’ve got Zombie Sharks, Skeleton Whales, and Sirens. Because they’re monsters, they actually drop their rare loot when you defeat them.
- Also, waves. These are mobs that cannot be damaged but have a hitbox. Dolphins and orcas will ride these waves.
It feels super clean, performance-friendly, and very authentic to the vanilla game.
Best of luck with that, zarzar1033
