I think the Mesa biome has a lot of potential but currently feels a bit empty compared to some other biomes. Since it already has a mining theme with the exposed gold and mineshafts, I think it would be cool if there were much larger abandoned gold mines. Instead of only having small entrances sticking out of the ground, there could be huge open pit mines with paths or stairways leading down into them. These mines could contain loot, abandoned equipment, and larger underground areas to explore.
Another feature I would like to see is old railway systems throughout the biome. There could be long tracks crossing the landscape, damaged sections of rail, and abandoned trains that players can enter. The trains could contain loot chests or tell a story about miners who once worked there. I think this would make exploring the biome more interesting and give players something unique to discover besides the existing mineshafts.
I also think Mesa villages based on old western towns would fit the biome really well. The buildings could use terracotta and other materials that match the surroundings. New items such as a lasso could also be added to give the biome its own special features. These changes would make the Mesa biome feel more alive, encourage exploration, and give players more reasons to visit it during survival worlds.
