Make sulfur spikes grow faster

I am making a sulfur farm, after leaving my computer on overnight the sulfur spikes each grew 1 block. 2 At most.

    The update isn't even out yet. So how did you make a sulfur farm? And why don't you just go to a sulfur cave to collect sulfur there?
