This problem is not a simple bug, but a conflict of interest. In player's opinion, keeping Attribute Swapping could make pvp has more playability; but in developer's opinion, Attribute Swapping is an unexpected feature, keeping it means developer will compromise to player and lose the control of the game.

I have mixed opinions on attribute swapping. Generally, I agree with the concept and do believe it is a good addition, though it can feel clunky and unbalanced, especially in Axe PVP where using a sword to bypass the axe cooldown and break shields which is an unintended and unbalanced quirk of attribute swapping. However, I do believe attribute swapping is mostly a fun quirk and a PVP necessity rather than an unbalanced problem.

"especially in Axe PVP where using a sword to bypass the axe cooldown and break shields which is an unintended and unbalanced quirk of attribute swapping"

first of all, the mojang developers have already announced they will be removing attribute swapping in a future version.

Secondly, how is swapping to an axe unbalanced? While you are using sword cooldown, spamming left click with an axe also causes a shield to be disabled. The only perk of swapping with the sword is that if they lower their shield your hit continues to do the sword's damage, allowing for more intense and faster fights.

Attribute Swapping is NOT a glitch, and the Hotbar ➔ Attack ➔ Use processing order was never an accident. Notch wrote this code over 13 years ago with absolute intent and full consciousness to keep Java Edition fast-paced, highly responsive, and intensely competitive for the PvP community.
By trying to patch Attribute Swapping, you fundamentally broke the core engine mechanics in the snapshots. Changing the processing order to Attack ➔ Use ➔ Hotbar didn’t just fix a "bug"—it introduced an unplayable 50ms delay, completely crippled Hotbar Swapping, destroyed Cooldown Canceling, and ruined beloved technical vanilla tactics like the Minecart with TNT combo. It completely lowered the skill ceiling and rewarded sluggish gameplay.
Weapon mechanics like the Mace and Spear combos (such as the Elytra-Spear-Mace setup) are pure expressions of player skill, fast aim, and manual muscle memory. They are not cheating.
If you can officially accept and embrace Quasi-Connectivity as an un-intended but permanent feature for the Redstone community because it adds depth, you MUST show the exact same respect to the PvP community. Attribute Swapping has earned its place as an engrained feature of Minecraft Java combat.
Listen to your community: Revert these input-order delays permanently and keep the 1-tick weapon swapping as a legitimate, high-skill mechanic!

I have spent 8 months of grueling training, grinding day and night to push my skills from a total noob to a professional PvP player, all thanks to the mastery of Attribute Swapping. Now, you want to patch this mechanic and completely destroy months of hard work, muscle memory, and intense dedication, just to satisfy casual players who don't even care about competitive combat?
I am exhausted. Was the devastation of the 1.9 combat update not enough for the PvP community? I saved up my own money and bought the official Java Edition exclusively to master the depth of Attribute Swapping and high-tier competitive tactics.
The hypocrisy here is unreal. You officially embraced Quasi-Connectivity for the Redstone community within a matter of days because it added technical depth. Yet, the PvP community has been protesting and roaring for 5 full months, and your only response is calling it a "temporary patch"!
We do not care about casuals or new players who complain about the skill gap. Singleplayer worlds exist for training, and practice maps are everywhere for them to learn. Do not punish manual skill and fast reflex gameplay to reward laziness.
Listen to your core competitive community: Revert the input delays, respect the PvP legacy, and keep Attribute Swapping as a permanent feature of Minecraft Java combat

As a Mace specialist, my entire playstyle relies on the technical depth of combining the Spear’s extended reach with the Mace’s devastating smash attack through Attribute Swapping. This requires frame-perfect timing and intense muscle memory. Stripping this mechanic away doesn't just patch a glitch; it completely kills creative combat combos and limits the potential of these two weapons.
