Some players (especially veterans) ask for extrinsic motivation on why to build a home; in the very early game, home bases are a way to avoid monsters, or so it should be, until you can skip the danger. Here’s what would fix that;
- Make wool only drop from shears. Unless you’re lucky, you’ll likely need iron before you can sleep. This small change gives the upcoming Hay Beds a an actual place in progression, too, and encourages farming wheat! It would also drive all players to farm sheep early on, which might deepen their relationship with their worlds.
- Regular Beds speed up the game’s tick rate, instead of skipping the night. On the one hand, monsters still roam around, encouraging building a safe place to sleep, while on the other hand, crops, copper, furnaces, etc keep going through the night, making this rebalance also an elegant way to speed up some of the grindier parts of the game. It’d be a lot more immersive, too.
These two tweaks would perfectly with the upcoming game drop. One is super easy to implement, while another more technical. I think both ought to be in the game.
