Minecraft Java Edition should have official controller support because it would make the game more accessible, comfortable, and enjoyable for a huge number of players. While keyboard and mouse controls work well for many people, not everyone prefers using them, especially when playing for long periods of time. Controller support already exists in Minecraft Bedrock Edition, proving that the game can function perfectly with a gamepad, so it feels strange that Java Edition still lacks a built-in option. Many players enjoy sitting back in a chair, relaxing on a couch, or playing on devices connected to a television, and controller support would make those experiences much smoother. Currently, Java players often have to rely on third-party mods or external programs to use controllers properly, which can be confusing for new players and may not always work correctly after updates. Official support would eliminate these issues and provide a consistent experience across all versions of the game. It would also help players with certain disabilities or mobility limitations who find controllers easier to use than a keyboard and mouse. Adding controller support would not take away any existing control options, as keyboard and mouse users could continue playing exactly as they do now. Instead, it would simply give players more freedom to choose the control method that works best for them.
