Small sulfur cube can eat blocks and upgrade rope

I've been trying for days to make string lights using the sulfur cube with light blocks, but I can't loop the sulfur cube around two fences at the same time. This seems like such an obvious thing that it should happen even more, especially since they updated the rope in the Happy Ghast update. It should also be possible to link two fences together without needing a mob; this would increase the decoration possibilities by 1000%.
