logging on for the first time

I remember the first time downloaded Minecraft and played, and I had fun. but when night came, I was stuck in a hole in the ground until morning. I could have made use of a tutorial that would show me how to create a world and switch between creative and survival. this mod could show the player how to build and what blocks do. it could be a tutorial for the entire game, but you wouldn't have to play all the way through. I think this would be great for first time players. (if this is the wrong category, please tell me.)
