Dogs should be able to pick up scents in minecraft to get items. If you are very very lucky you could get a diamond. The rarest thing it could get is a netherrite ingot. Instead of using your brush for suspicious sand you can use it to sniff it and it would have a higher chance of getting a sniffer egg. The dog could also poop - the poop would look like the minecraft chicken foot.
