Currently, sulfur and cinnabar have very few practical uses in the game, and they should not be limited to such simple functions. At present, sulfur and cinnabar only exist as block forms, and their item forms should be added to the game.
Cinnabar is mainly composed of mercury sulfide, which reacts with iron and produces toxic substances. For this reason, iron pickaxes should not mine cinnabar efficiently. At the very least, mining cinnabar should consume double the durability of an iron pickaxe. In addition, cinnabar is a traditional red pigment in Chinese culture. Similar to how lapis lazuli can be crafted into blue dye, the item form of cinnabar should be craftable into red dye.
Sulfur is an important ingredient of gunpowder. It should be possible to craft gunpowder using sulfur, charcoal, and bone meal (as a temporary substitute for potassium nitrate). This change would allow players to obtain gunpowder in Peaceful Mode. Right now, players on Peaceful Mode can barely get gunpowder except from loot chests, which is very inconvenient.
