The Gribun is a friendly mob found in mycelium biomes, the Nether, and the End. It has a round body, short legs, and a large mushroom cap but no arms—it manipulates items using spores released from its cap.
8 Varieties exist:
- Red/Brown (50% each, black eyes).
- Crimson (80% in Nether, lava immune), Warped (20%, teleports on hit).
- Glowing (0.5% anywhere, orange body, white eyes, shroomlight cap, light level 15).
- Artificially Glowing (feed any Gribun a shroomlight → yellow eyes, light 12).
- End (30% in End, purple, teleports, harvests chorus fruit).
- Void (10% in End caves, black/blue, turns invisible on hit).
All have 24 HP. Key mechanics:
- Harvesting: Right-click to activate. Collects all crops in a 20×20 radius. A chest must be on a mushroom block to receive items.
- Sleeping: In darkness (light level <4), they hide entirely inside their cap, looking like a normal mushroom. They wake up if you approach.
- Taming: Feed them Mushroom Feed. Tamed Gribuns follow you. Right-click to make them sit or toggle harvesting.
- Breeding: Requires 2 Spores. Baby grows in 20 minutes, inheriting a parent's type.
- Interaction: Shears give 1–3 mushrooms. A Bowl gives mushroom stew. The cap regrows in 20 minutes.
Gribun Hat: 3% drop from shearing. When worn, it stops mimics from attacking you. Also, Gribuns within 5 blocks will approach you, and those within 3 blocks will start dancing.
