The Desert in real life is an extreme environment, with many creatures developing deadly venoms to survive and hunt. Two creatures come to mind. The Six Eyed Sand Spider and the Scorpion.
These two arachnids could be added to the desert as dangerous and challenging obstacles.
The Scorpion should take two routes. A small version, smaller than the cave spider, and a large variant.
The small Scorpion should do poison damage, but be easily enough to avoid with some care. Just don't step on him.
The Giant Scorpion could be larger or equal size to the normal spider. In addition to a nasty poison sting, it could deal decent damage to the player with its pincers. The Giant Scorpion could be treated as a Mini minions, having touch chitinous armour, (potentially a drop reward) and a decent health pool. It could have three attacks. The pinch, the grab, and the sting. The grab and sting would be a combo move where it grabs and immobilizes you before it stings, allowing you to block and avoid the sting with careful observation.
The Sand Spider would be an ambush hunter with deadly venom. It buries itself under the sand and waits for you to walk over it. It could be deadly, but easily avoidable with careful observation. Potentially, it could work by only attacking when you trigger the ambush, meaning if you walk around it, you avoid the danger.
These creatures could add lots of personality to the desert, and reflect the extreme life that falls the desert home.
