As a player returning to Minecraft after missing the past few game updates, I was immediately confused by being faced with "Release 26.1.2". Despite the reasons you gave, entirely scrapping the numbering of releases that has been in place for over a decade only creates greater confusion than changing the way you use that convention. You have stated that the game will be receiving "drops" more often rather than larger updates. However, you could have instead begun using the second number in the 1.xx.x scheme for the drop. So the Tiny Takeover update could have been 1.22. This would remove the confusion about the complete overhaul of the naming/numbering convention.
At the very least, making it be 1.year.drop would remove some of the confusion. With the current naming scheme, I believed 26.1.2 to be a snapshot, not an actual release, because it shares a similar naming convention to how snapshots used to be numbered.
Overall, I think the decision to completely alter the naming/numbering convention did the opposite of your goal of removing confusion about versions, and instead any returning players confused about which version was the most recent release.
