The XP System in this game is far too time-consuming and does nothing to add to the entire experience of the game. We end up doing extremely repetitive tasks that make the game more of a grinding experience, rather than an explorative and fun experience.
You guys took away what you considered a "bug" with the Furnace XP system, but you didn't realize that having this in the game made the game significantly more enjoyable. The XP Furnace bug took time to build, it wasn't an automatic XP thing that required no work or effort, but it freed up time to do what people normally like to do in Minecraft, such as building, exploring, and other things that are truly enjoyable in this game.
I want to emphasize the whole "time" aspect. Not everyone has several hours a day to acquire XP via traditional means. I am a working father of three children (whom I like to play Minecraft with) and I essentially have two jobs. This does not leave enough time to gain any XP. The XP Furnace was a perfect solution for me. I could get XP and play the game I wanted to without the unnecessary grind.
But if Mojang insists on not re-implementing the XP Furnace bug, then here are my suggestions:
-Make XP easier to acquire. Either with Enchantments and such, but gaining the appropriate amount of XP for the necessary enchantments is ridiculously infuriating, time consuming, and not enjoyable at all.
or,
-Allow players to select enchantments when enchanting, without wasting XP for unwanted enchantments.
