you should be able to use the sulfur cubes for traps and defense onyourbase

I found a slingshot mechanic where when you attach a lead to a sulfur cube and put a block in front of it the walk far enough for the lead to break and send the sulfur cubes flying i think this would be a good catapult defense for your bases and if you could put tnt inside of the sulfur cube and then launch it it should blow up any intruders.
