There are many items and block families locked behind a wall of complete luck with no regard to progression, simply because the location they spawn in is so rare. It is often a daunting time commitment to search tens of thousands of blocks just to find cherry wood, or pale oak, and the only thing that can make it even a little easier is elytra, which is an unreasonably difficult requirement just to find pink wood, without even guaranteeing you’ll actually find it. But there’s already a solution in the game already for finding stuff, Eyes of Ender. Eyes are genius, they link progression directly to not only unlocking the portal, but also finding the Stronghold in the first place, they guarantee you’ll find it but still require effort to use. Why restrict them to only find the Stronghold? My solution is to make it possible to program Eyes of Ender, either in an enchantment table or in some new workstation, to be able to find other structures and biomes. There are plenty of knobs to turn here, you can make it require rare materials like a nether star or chorus fruit, or you can require a large amount of a more common resource (renewable or not!). You can make finding different locations require different materials, so finding a cherry grove is relatively easy, while finding a bastion like this is hardly even worth it. I think this has the potential to be a very elegant solution if it’s done right.
