The amount of progress you can lose from very unpredictable deaths in lava in the nether (or the void in the end) is very harsh, especially for newer players exploring.
So an idea would be to add a version of the wandering trader who can be found in the nether. Thematically it could be a fisherman piglin who rides on a strider and fishes for lost items in the lava ocean.
When interacting with him, you can buy a limited and random selection of items that have despawned previously in the nether for gold ingots. (The items would probably be best as per player and not globally) The rarity of the items would correspond to the cost in gold ingots. (Tools would keep all their attributes like durability, enchantments, naming).
(An End equivalent to this where the trader rides a flying mob could be be relevant for a potential End update..)
The feature blends well into the game thematically as well as making the game a bit more fair while also being quite easy to balance, because of course there should be significant enough consequences to those deaths.
