The core idea is to introduce a new drop and processing chain:
The Sulfur Cube drops a new item: Sulfur Slime
When smelted in a furnace or cooked on a campfire, Sulfur Slime becomes Sulfur Dust
This creates a natural progression similar to other in-game mechanics and gives players a new material to work with.
From there, Sulfur Dust could serve more purposes:
1. Brewing Use
Sulfur Dust, or sulfur blocks found in the new cave biome, could be used to create a Potion of Nausea when combined with an Awkward Potion, giving that status effect a practical survival use.
2. Gunpowder Crafting Recipe
A new recipe for gunpowder could be introduced:
1x Sulfur Dust
1x Charcoal
1x Sand
Produces 1x Gunpowder
This approach keeps the recipe intuitive and balanced:
Charcoal gains a unique purpose beyond being an alternative fuel
Sand represents mineral content already associated with explosives
Sulfur Dust acts as the progression gate, encouraging exploration
Importantly, this would not replace creepers as the main source of gunpowder, but instead provide a controlled alternative for smaller-scale crafting.
Additionally, this concept could spark curiosity beyond the game, inspiring interest in chemistry and encouraging creativity and discovery.
