As of snapshot 11 of 26.1, item model definitions now have a “transformation” field the same way item and block displays have had since they’ve been added. Unlike display entities, however, item models don’t have the ability to interpolate. Wouldn’t it be amazing if your custom item could interpolate between transformations depending on your items’ components? You could, for example, have a compass style item composite with a needle model that smoothly rotates! You could make it so that a piece of food shrinks while you’re eating it! You could have a 3D bucket that has shifting fluid inside of it. The potential for data driven animation is endless! I know the update is yet to release but just adding interpolation opens the door to so much for custom resource and datapack creators!
