Problem 1: Currently, villages will often be built in steep areas and consequently will have paths that end in sudden drops, leaving parts of the village inaccessible for both the player and villagers.
Possible solutions: Program villages to not generate in locations where poor generation is possible, instead opting for a plateau or gentle slope to build the villages. Or maybe instead they could be shifted slightly when this occurs to make the village safely accessible. Paths should always be flat if possible or just a small one block drop at a time. Same with houses.
Problem 2: Villages can lack flavour/variety.
Solution: There could be a chance to have a building under construction with scaffolding present, or perhaps a burnt down building (burnt wood?). Evidence of deforestation, maybe even better architecture/improved features (such as fountains). Something like that. Slightly bigger houses with a bit more furniture. Maybe a few pet dogs around the village.
Problem 3: Villages sometimes lack enough/any sort of amenities. Many villagers are unemployed as a result.
Solution: More specialty buildings per village: stable, blacksmith, library, etc. Perhaps a pharmacy building with potions/ingredients/bottles inside?
Problem 4: Village loot is often repetitive. Aside from blacksmith loot it's mainly just bread, apples and some emeralds.
Solution: Saddles, leads, buckets and hay could be found inside stables, buckets could also be found in other buildings + other loot.
