Villagers can sometimes be zombified by zombies. The merchant is similar to a villager. I think it will be more cool to had a zombified merchant. Instead of the llamas, it would be zombie horses and instead of drinking the invisibility potion at night, he would drink the potion during the day to hide from iron golems and players.
