As a console player, I have found it frustrating that once I download a mash-up pack, I cannot use the new items/mobs that are included on my own worlds. I propose to you the idea that once you have downloaded a mash-up pack, you should be able to extract the behavior packs and textures from it. Upon creating a world from a template, after unlocking it the way you would to turn on cheats and such, there should be an option underneath "copy world" that says "Extract behavior packs and textures." It should give you a warning stating something along the lines of "If you choose to use these packs on your own worlds, you might not be able to find everything contained in this mash-up pack naturally. Some mobs and items may only be obtainable through creative mode or cheating. It may also cause errors to occur during gameplay. Continue?" After proceeding, you can now apply these packs to your worlds, and after doing so, a backup copy will be made in case anything goes wrong. Again, you still have to download the packs in order to use them, so you won't lose any money from this.
"But what if the pack was made prior to the current release of the game?"
...Good question! I have no idea!
