LOD stands for level of detail, which means that the further away an object is, the less detail it has. In this way, you could easily double the visible chunks, without affecting performance. The player wouldn´t even notice the low quality of the blocks, since they are so far away(only noticable through spyglass or optifine). You could even add a slider in the video settings, which chooses what percentage of the render distance, that should have lower quality. I can already see how amazed everyone would be if this update came through. Just imagine opening your world and seeing that the horizon stretches so far, that you can´t even see the end. This would be a benefit for all platforms, if you have a low-end phone or the best PC, you can always have a higher render distance. If you like high render distances without loss of performance, please consider voting.
