We love the Villagers and iron Golems, and with the new Villagers and their job system I have this idea I've wanted for such a long time that I could now very well see added into Minecraft. After all, we can't expect the poor Iron Golems to do all the work in protecting a village when it grows large enough! Let's give them some help with the Villager Protector.
This would be a new job for a villager which would involve a new block known as the Weapon wrack (perhaps it can store a few weapons in it as a bonus) or perhaps just the armor stand. When a villager without a job is near one of these blocks the villager is transformed into a Villager Protector or Guard. Now rather than the usually villagers whom go to their work bench in the day and then in bed at night, the Villager protector would guard the area around their block as a post and would sleep in a bed once damaged (So they can guard at night).
Perhaps the players could even drop armor and weapons on this villager and they'd pick it up and equip it if it was better than what they already have, giving players incentive to upgrade their villages even further. An achievement could be attached this this such as:
"Sound the Town Guard" for making a Villager Protector, and
"Arming the Village" for giving an iron weapon or armor to one of them!
I know as a creative builder I'd LOVE this feature as would probably a lot of people, and for survival players this would give a lot more ways to protect and grow our villages!
