Endermites should have more unique traits to distinguish them from silverfish. For example, they could infest chorus plant blocks throughout the end. When the player harvests the chorus plant, all of the infested blocks will break and a big swarm of endermites will spawn.
Endermites could also be parasitic and latch on to mobs or players. They may slowly drain health or apply a harmful status effect. The endermites can be removed if the player or mob takes damage, either from the environment, another mob, or a potion effect.
Another idea would be coaxing an enderman to remove a player's endermites.
