I came up with this:
Solution proposition: Zombie drop behavior
- Zombies with drops are still persistent unloaded
- Zombies while loaded after some amount of time will drop their held item (they get bored with it, they’re a zombie, what does he want 26 rockets for really).
- Zombie dropped items CAN’T be picked up by any other mob (tagging zombie dropped instead of player dropped), officially despawning the item with regular entity rules, AND causing the zombie to no longer be persistent
First issue is a constantly egg laying chicken. If a new egg is constantly delivered to the zombies to pick up and drop, they could still stay spawned and a small pool of eggs could start forming. This isn’t ideal for anyone except a fox.
So addendum rule:
- Zombies can only pick up an item once at all! After they get bored and drop their item, they become TOO focused on delicious player meat and simply can’t pick up further items
But what about zombie dressup!!!
- Zombies don’t get bored of armor (they like looking pretty) and only drop held items specifically, not throw away precious equipment! And Pretty Zombies are Persistent Zombies!
