The addition of Slim/Alex models was a great addition, but there should be more options for the player. It is perfectly possible to add more models to the game that still look fairly reasonable and fit into the Minecraft style.
For example, the addition of a model that introduces smaller arms, legs, torso, and a wider head can still look fine (this is easier shown with an image). Alternatively, a player could have a model that has a taller head, or the hat layer could extend downwards (in size) independent of the head, allowing for different kinds of headwear or facial hair.
We could either be given more options in the same manner that we have "Slim" (Alex) and "Classic" (Steve) or be able to upload models from Blockbench (models would have some restrictions to prevent model-hitbox exploitation and to be within reason).
In the first method, armor could be scaled up/down and given new textures to fit all the new model types. In the second, more work would need to be done, but it could still work.
Some examples I made can be found if you search this post's title.
