Currently Minecraft can play up to 247 sounds simultaneously. But everything above will simply not be played.
Let’s have an example: You’re building a Zombified Piglin Farm and all these mobs create a lot of sounds. Now when you place a block directly in front of you, this sound will not be played. This can be very confusing.
So instead I recommend something like an intelligent sound render distance so that sounds near you will be prioritized.
How it would work is: it functions as normal until the sound limit is reached. Then the sound render distance does limit itself to the highest distance at which there are less than 247 sounds to play.
So in my example some mob sounds further away would not be played but the sound from placing the block would be.
