The Substitute Villager. This is a villager that acts as a substitute for the player. He looks a lot like you, and his outfit copies the colors on your character's skin.
His job is to keep the area in motion while you're not nearby. Even if you're thousands of blocks away, the substitute makes sure your farms are running, grass is growing, and redstone is still operating. As you can imagine, this is a very powerful profession!
Each player can only have one substitute. If you make a new substitute, the old one will lose his job. This is to keep the gameplay balanced and make sure servers don't lose too much performance.
His trades are based off the player's trading habits. Whatever you frequently buy and sell from other villagers, the substitute will also offer.
Some technical details: my initial suggestion is the Novice keeps 1 chunk, the Apprentice keeps 2x2, Journeyman 3x3, Expert 4x4 and the Master 5x5 chunks loaded at a time. So at most, the substitute can only cover 25 chunks. To me, this sounds balanced and won't cause performance issues. As mentioned, you can only have one substitute at a time. On servers, substitutes are limited to 1 per player.
Personally I think this would lead to a lot of ingenuity, especially for redstone engineers. Imagine being able to return home using an ender pearl. You can build a redstone clock that activates after a few minutes, touches the pearl and brings you home instantly!
The possibilities are endless. I hope you like it!
