A lot of structures have been around a while, like the jungle temple, and were specifically designed to fit the feel of the game. While they do that, the game has become more complex and people have been playing for years. The simplicity of the current state is necessary to the theme, but also boring. I propose:
“Shiny structures,” (like shiny Pokémon), where every structure has a “grand” variant with a very small chance to spawn instead of a regular version. this way, the original structure would still be found by players most of the time, and looking for the large variant would be an adventure. The “shiny” structure might be grand in scale, visually impressive, and/or add an element of challenge similar to ocean monuments. perhaps there would be an effect called “awe of the temple” that disallowed mining/Limited vision/disabled melee weapons, or somehow changed the way players had to solve problems. The variant structures should ONLY add an element of fun/adventure and NOT be necessary to gameplay (no unique loot.)
with all the traveling involved, a shiny structure would add an element of adventure back into the game. it’s not hard to find something like a desert temple anymore with the fast methods of travel that have been implemented, plus it takes all of 30 seconds to google seeds with rare features. I propose that shiny structures aren’t fixed: meaning that if two people load the same seed, one might get a shiny structure and one might not.
