Allay working without item-filter

Right now Allay takes a filtering item and carries the same items to the note block.  My suggestion is to give Allay the opportunity to pickup any items, if he don't have a filtering item and he has his own note block.  For example, when building a house, Allay will pickup blocks that have fallen down

    I don't agree with this.  I think that the allay is best used as proposed by Ulraf, as a non-stackables item sorter which is something sorely lacking from the game.  Think of it this way, sorting books, armour items, totems and potions into their individual chests will suddenly become easier, yes?
