I think one feature almost every player would benefit from is a very simple distance calculator attached to a key/mouse button. So, pressing it on a block starts it, and clicking it again on a new block simply puts in the distance away from the 1st block it is in the chat window for the player. Pressing it on a new block recalculates distance to that block instead. Long holding it resets it completely.
Ideally, we could have an option to let it ignore y axis variation, either as a separate key or simply as a setting option for the 1 key.
Having it put up an overlay visualizing the distance line in the world (such as with a debug screen option, similar to how we visualize chunk borders or hitboxes) would also be helpful.
I know there are mods in Java that could do this, but it relies on the player knowing how to install mods and stumbling upon one that does this without doing anything else too invasive. It is probably possible with commands, but its obscure enough that I haven't found any way to do it with them yet. Typing in commands, however, is too time consuming and inaccessible anyways for this concept imo. I think its so universally useful for Minecraft players (especially new ones trying to work through mechanics/tutorials heavily dependent on correct spacing), that every player should have a quick, accessible version of a distance calculator built into the game.
