If you want to propose a change to an existing structure (like villages), or add something brand new in a current dimension or biome, this is the place.

    But wouldn't eyes of ender lead you directly to the stronghold letting you skip most of the ancient city?

    Yeah, and from a lore perspective, I think it makes sense. Strongholds and ancient cities are just too similar and therefore they kind of conflict themselves in the story. Regardless, I’m looking forward to what the devs will do about this

    (note: this is not to say ancient cities should always have strongholds, strongholds shouldn't be common enough you could bump into them by accident while exploring, but ancient cities should, so only a few cities should have strongholds.)

    I think some ancient cities should have a portal that may connect to the end but can't look like an end portal in strongholds, now my rationale is personal lore building. The civilization that build the ancient cities are also the ones that made ruin nether portals. The end is where they encountered the end city civilization, between their technologies and magic they essentially wipe each other out and the product of the war still lingers (Warden & Skulks/Ender Dragon and Endermen) and potentially lead to their demise. Now, this then leads to more questions, are villagers descendants of the ancient civilization or are zombies as some sort of necromancy attempt to survive? Did this civilization develop magic and technology to travel into other dimensions (future dimensions) that just weren't as interesting to them (unlike the nether were there is ancient debri marking something they were doing.)

    And are strongholds the footholds of the end civilization ergo explaining why they are centered on the dragon's island and different than ancient cities? (And why texturally should be different than any portals found in ancient cities)

    Shoot! I never considered replacing the strongholds with cities. My idea was to give the cities strongholds in the form of catacombs, but dropping the stronghold and keeping the portal might work better! Great idea! (in terms of lore, it's very hard to say stuff for certain, generally not my area of expertise, so no comment lol)
