The Glare’s Design is one of my favorites, but I believe that the Glare’s function as it currently is, wont see much use or appeal from players. If and when the glare is added it should be a mob found in deep caves that can be tamed through some item, and will then follow the player like a dog. The core mechanics of the glare though, is to warn the player of nearby mobs that have noticed them, and by periodically lighting up the darkness around the player with glow lichen. The glare will have two different growls, one for mobs approaching, and other for trying to get the player to light an area. For the first growl, it will only make it if the player hasn’t hit the approaching mob in the last minute. While in the case of the second growl, it will be quieter and less annoying (due to how frequently it will make it) and if ignored it will light the area itself. Perhaps there will be a limit for how frequently the glare can place lichen, or maybe it will require the player to feed them glow berry’s before it can light anything up.
As a less complete idea what if they can sometimes be found in groups of three around lichen. Where if all three glare at a mob there is a chance the mob will be frightened away from attacking. Similar to a cat or warped mushroom, acting as a safe space in caves. Additionally wild Glares may (if no mobs are nearby), gain enough courage to explore and light the cave further. Making cave easier to explore the longer the player is around them.
