Non-Local Player to Player Multiplayer on Java Edition

I have been playing Minecraft Java since 2015, although since the 1.9 Snapshots i haven't played Java but rather bedrock. I played bedrock for years, then recently I recovered my Mojang account and migrated it to my Microsoft account. Since getting it back. I have loved Java. Optifine, Mods, the terrain, Shaders, Linux and Mac OS support, and so much more. But, Java isn't multiplayer friendly. I currently have a laptop with 4 GB of ram and an Atom based Celeron Intel CPU, so building a server wasn't an option, I wouldn't want a server membership or realm membership either as I'm saving money for a better PC and school. So I'm stuck with playing single player, or maybe LAN if I can get someone over in a pandemic. Why cant Java be more like bedrock, what is stopping it?   I agree, this is basically why I don't play Java that much. Other then the fact that my computer is crappy and turns it into a PowerPoint. The thing is, bedrock works just fine. Java is just more effort to play, that's why I'm hoping more parity features come soon.

  Yeah Java isn't great towards computers with weaker hardware (such as my own). Hopefully, they will have some performance optimization tweaks with 1.18, but also they're multiplying the world size by 1.5x (I think), so yeahhh....

  Yes please I had to make a server to play with friends on Java but SOOOO easy on bedrock
