It's awkwardly apparent that whatever part of the minecraft world generation algorithm is responsible for the placement of the village structures, it doesn't take the elevation difference of the terrain into account. This has led to several instances of structure placement being anywhere from amusing at best, mildly inconvenient to downright frustrating. This isn't even to mention the broken result that is the village path blocks. If the building placement doesn't allow sensible roads to generate in a 3 dimensional perspective, ie; the path blocks have a slope steeper than 1/1; change the position of the building to where such a path is possible.
