I've ventured here to provide my own vision regarding a possible, easy idea to implement on something that has been caught in my eyes in 8 years of playing the game: wolves.
They are quite awesome addition on their core as a notion to the early days of humanity using tamed wolves for guarding duties. However I can agree on the surface that the single gray texture is a bit dull to constantly see amidst other mobs having few variants.
Now, I'm not gonna leap into being 540035th person to say "plz more dog-like textures for wolves" or even any sub-species texturing: all I'm thinking personally is to having several naturally varied fur colors for the wolves that exist in actual wolf populations.
Darker gray, Near white, beige, brown, bluish gray... These 5 on their own would be absolutely good idea to add as it is subtle way to increase variety that allows players to find their favorite wolf-color along with colored collars!
And, that's it. No need for any further fiddling with specific biome spawns for types (thou it can be optional) or running around with sub-species styles. Just something natural and keeping to the theme of wolves that may operate as tamed companions for players!
What do you fellas think? :o
