As everyone knows, ram is a very important requirement when it comes to Minecraft. At the moment there is no way to set a custom resolution in Minecraft Pocket Edition. Example of where this becomes as problem; I own an iPad 8 which runs a very capable A12 Bionic chip and 3GB of ram. Minecraft Pocket Edition runs at a device’s native resolution, in my case 1620x2160. Textures at this resolution takes a lot of ram, causing very noticeable frame drops and lag spikes which isn’t a nice gameplay experience and that’s only while playing with an 8 chunk render distance. Bumping up the render distance causes severe lag spikes and occasionally crashes due to a lack of resources. A solution to this problem as mentioned before would be a custom resolution slider. Decreasing the resolution would decrease the resolution at which textures are rendered which in turn would lighten the load on the ram resulting in a smooth gameplay experience. Of course a dedicated optimisation update would also be nice.
