Basically, this idea is to add a new kind of artifact that lets the player temporarily change into a different, powerful and/or mobile form.
These would be artifacts that, when used, would place the character on a mount entity, changing attacks and movement. Pressing the attack button would cause the mount to use a melee attack, if it had any, and pressing the shoot button would cause the mount to use a ranged attack, if it had any. The mounts would do summon damage, which would also spice up the gameplay of Summoners because it would give them more options to get in and fight with the enemies instead of just spamming bees and wolves and running away.
You can dismiss the mount by using the artifact you use to summon it again. It would then be unusable until it cooled down. I thought of two options for how long the mounts would last otherwise:
- The mounts would take damage instead of you, and when their health ran out, they would disappear.
- If that option is too OP, then the player takes damage for the mounts, and they would simply disappear after a set time (although maybe some mounts could give the player some damage resistance.)
Also, to prevent cheesing, all mount artifacts would not cool down while a mount is summoned.
If collision with the map would be an issue, then the mounts should have the same terrain-interacting hitbox as the player. And rolling and usage of other artifacts would probably be disabled while mounting.
I think this idea would add fun variety to gameplay.
