In the new snapshot, the librarian started selling candles. That's cool, but why only two colors?
The main problem with crafting candles is string. You can only obtain large amounts of it from spider spawners or by trading with piglins, but the latter method requires a lot of gold. Gathering string is a bit tedious and difficult early in the game, so adding candle trading is a great idea, but it needs some work.
I see two ways to improve this:
- Have the librarian sell candles of all colors randomly.
- Add a villager with a new candle trading system.
More about the second option:
There have been several threads suggesting the idea of creating a beekeeper profession, but none of them described how to fill this villager with content that fits the current trading system. I tried to come up with the following trading system:
Novice
(100%, slot 1) 12 honeycomb → 1 em.
(100%, slot 2) 1 empty bottle & 3 em. → 1 honey bottle
Apprentice
(50%, slot 3–4) 12 string → 1 em.
(50%, slot 3–4) 8 honey block → 1 em.
(50%, slot 3–4) 8 honeycomb block → 1 em.
(50%, slot 3–4) 1 em. → 4 candles (plain)
Journeyman
(100%, slot 5) 10 em. → 1 beehive
(100%, slot 6) 4 em. → 1 campfire
Expert
(12.5%, slot 7–8) 1 em. → 4 red/yellow/blue/white/orange/black/gray/light-gray candles
Master
(12.5%, slot 9–10) 1 em. → 4 brown/lime/cyan/magenta/purple/pink/light-blue candles
The last two levels vary depending on how difficult the dye is to obtain.
