Identify Block (Bedrock Accessibility Feature)

We have added a dedicated key binding for Identify Block, a new accessibility feature coming to Bedrock Edition that helps you understand what’s directly in front of you.

What's new:

  • Identify the block or mob you’re looking at
  • Receive information via text and Text‑to‑Speech
  • Available for keyboard or controller inputs.

    If you identify a mob or block, mob and block descriptions from Legacy Console should be used also, as they were super helpful.

    It would be nice if both descriptions and images of blocks could be shown on screen like in Legacy Console Edition.

    Blocks and items should also be able to be identified in the inventory with detailed descriptions.

    It would be nice if you could disable the Text-to-Speech and only have the game display the text and/or descriptions to the screen rather than both. This way longer descriptions like the ones from Legacy Console can be used without being distracting or annoying.

    It's more of a gimmick then anything you should make April fools updates stay in the game or make regular updates as good as April fools updates or at least keep some like the potato items and blocks so I can build planes

    In its current state this feature is frankly not very useful. In some ways it's like a worse version of subtitles. 

    I think Describe to Identify Block should work like how it did in Legacy Console where full descriptions (and possibly images) are shown on-screen for each block, item and mob (along with text-to speech if needed).

    This would be far more effective at teaching new players how to play the game than the current in-game Encyclopedia because it educates them on the mechanics of Minecraft by teaching them how certain blocks, items and mobs can be used and by giving them hints that guide them through the game in a visual manner. The team may not even need to write brand new descriptions from scratch, as they could simply reuse the descriptions found in the Legacy Console Editions.

    Would this require more work? Of course, but its definitely worth it. Minecraft is often criticized for being overly reliant on wiki's and internet guides. If this feature can be updated in a way that solves these issues, I think it would really broaden the appeal of the game and help players (especially younger ones) in a more effective way compared to the current implementation.

    Just to add to what was said above, don't feel like you need to rush this feature. Most reasonable players can appreciate a well thought-out feature or mechanic even if it takes the dev team some time to fully deliver it.

    If the team feels like this feature is not as effective as it could be or needs some more time in the oven, feel free to delay it to a future release.
