Hello Mojang Studios team,
I would like to suggest an improvement to the Villager profession system, with a focus on providing the player with clear, intentional, and consistent control, without removing challenge or consequences from the game.
Currently, profession management can become unpredictable, especially in larger villages or areas with multiple workstations. Villagers often take unintended professions, fail to lose their profession correctly after a workstation is removed, or link to distant workstations. This reduces the player’s sense of control and creates unnecessary frustration.
The goal of this suggestion is not to automate or oversimplify the system, but to introduce an official, intentional control mechanic that fits naturally within Minecraft’s design. For example:
An item, block, or special interaction that allows resetting a profession only for Villagers with no locked trades;
A system that requires clear conditions, such as novice level, a cooldown, or a resource cost;
A method that allows players to deliberately decide when and how a Villager can acquire a profession, preventing accidental workstation binding.
This would preserve the value of permanent choices, maintain economic balance, and remove the need for improvised solutions like repeatedly breaking and replacing workstations.
Thank you for your time and for your continued work on Minecraft.
Sincerely,
Ryan Meireles
