Currently, Cartographers can sell players maps to structures. The problem is that once a player purchases one such map, they never need to buy it again.Β Even worse, if you visit a neighboring village, the Cartographer will sell the same maps leading to the same nearby structures.
I propose adding a special mechanic for updating the Cartographer's trades.
First, the Cartographer will now be able to interact with the Wandering Trader andΒ receive "rumors" β a new Cartographer'sΒ scale. When full, this scale will allow the Cartographer to changeΒ one of the maps leading to the structure (except for maps leading to villages), which the player has bought at least once, to a random new one.
The Cartographer will not always receive rumors, so it will take quite a few encounters with different traders to change one of the trades. This will make map changes rare and less annoying, and will also add an interesting twist to villages.
Secondly, when updating maps and choosing the structure to which the new map will lead, a huge area β up to 10,000 blocks in a radius around the Cartographer β will be used. This way, the Cartographer will randomly select a structure in this area to avoid repeating maps leading to the same place.
However, maps to the same structures may still appear β this will give new players a chance to buy a map that was once available for sale.
The Cartographer should also sell maps to more structures:
β Abandoned Mine
β Buried Treasure
β Desert Temple
β Outpost
β Mushroom Island
