I would like to suggest adding Whales as a new ocean mob focused on atmosphere,
exploration, and subtle gameplay utility, rather than combat or farming.
Whales would be rare and “mystical” creatures of the open ocean,
designed to make the sea feel deeper, larger, and more alive.
Behavior and Atmosphere:
- Whales would not attack players.
- They would produce deep, low-frequency sounds that can be heard from a distance,
creating a sense of scale, echo, and depth in the open ocean.
- Fish would naturally gather around whales, making the surrounding area feel rich in life.
- Hostile underwater mobs such as Drowned or Guardians would tend to keep their distance.
- Whales could break thin ice while swimming.
Exploration Utility (Key Feature):
Whales would strongly enhance fishing gameplay.
If a player fishes near a whale,
the chance of obtaining rare fishing loot (such as treasure items) would slightly increase.
This would:
- Encourage players to explore the ocean instead of fishing only in safe locations
- Make whales feel meaningful without being farmable
- Create a natural “signal” that an area of the ocean is rich and valuable
- Give players a reason to return to fishing as an exploration activity
Important Design Goals:
- No direct combat involvement
- No guaranteed rewards
- No easy automation
- Focus on atmosphere, discovery, and player curiosity
