I would like to suggest adding Tomatoes as a new crop that expands farming, food variety,
and small environmental interactions, while reusing existing mechanics.
1. Tomatoes as a Crop and Food Item
Tomatoes could be planted and grown like other simple crops.
They would serve as an alternative food source, offering variety without replacing existing staples.
Tomatoes could be eaten raw for a small hunger restoration,
or used in recipes such as Tomato Soup (see below).
2. Villagers Defending Themselves with Food
If a hostile mob attacks a Villager, the Villager could attempt to defend itself
by throwing a Tomato or a Rotten Potato.
- Thrown Tomatoes would act as a harmless projectile (similar to snowballs).
- Thrown Rotten Potatoes could apply Nausea for a short duration to the attacker,
representing disorientation rather than damage.
This would not turn Villagers into fighters,
but would add personality and a small survival instinct in dangerous situations.
3. Animal Interaction (Based on Real Life)
In real life, chickens and pigs eat tomatoes.
In Minecraft, Tomatoes could be used as a food item for:
- Chickens
- Pigs
4. Tomato Soup Effect
Tomato Soup could be crafted using Tomatoes and a Bowl.
In addition to restoring hunger, it could grant:
- Resistance I for 4 seconds
These ideas would:
- Increase crop and food variety
- Add charm and personality to Villagers
- Reuse existing systems (projectiles, food, status effects)
- Keep balance intact with short, subtle effects
