Villager trading is a problem. Mojang knows this and have previously attempted to alleviate the issue via biome specific trades, but I think I have a less tedious and more elegant solution.
At the start of every in-game day, each villager will have their trades cycled through. One day the fletcher sells a crossbow, then the next sells tipped arrows. Villagers would remember what jobs sell what items so placing the work station over and over again for new trades wouldn't work.
This solves issues regarding the terrible system of rerolling trades, as well as the problem of potential trade bloat in the future.
If you want, you could even give the player some way to influence what tomorrow's trades will be. This would be ESPECIALLY helpful for cartographers, considering you'd be able to get the map to the structure you want.
This is a relatively simple, player friendly, NON-TEDIOUS, and (perhaps the biggest feature that this has over the biome system) EASILY COMMUNICATED TO A NEW PLAYER.
