With the update to baby mob visuals, we are getting updated adult rabbits too. So why not update the rabbits? Currently, they are unfortunately pretty useless, only for jump boost potions which are easily overridden by things like elytra and tridents. Why not make them tameable? Rabbits aren't that uncommon of a pet in the real world. You could tame them like how you would cats potentially (with hay or tall grass maybe as too many carrots are actually bad for them), and they could change from wild to domestic rabbit colours when tamed as ocelots did. Some ideas for uses would be:
Thumping - rabbits (or "bunnies" when tamed) can hear hostile mobs that are outside of the player's hearing distance, and will make an audible thump to alert the player. The direction of their ear(s) will point out which direction the enemy is coming from
Digging - they can forage in dirt whilst wandering with the player, finding items (seeds, nuggets, etc.) and bringing them to the player
Sniffing - give a rabbit a certain item determined for a structure, and they will sniff around to find it if it's within 100 blocks
Sniffing ALTERNATIVE - give a rabbit an item, they will sniff it and point the player to the chest they keep that item in. Handy for when organising chests or for people who prefer not to organise their chests.
They won't jump off things and hurt themselves, only hop up to them to skip multiple blocks. This would be helpful when having them follow the player.
