Chat Feature Out-of-Gameplay in Minecraft

I just made a new friend in Minecraft. When he plays in a world, I don't enter it, because we have different versions of Minecraft. Meanwhile, I can't chat with him anymore because I don't have his phone number. If the Xbox or Microsoft website has a chat feature between accounts, I'm too lazy to use it because it can take time to log out and log back in to Minecraft.
