The Concept: To improve Minecraft’s aquatic life, we need "Functional Fantasy"—mobs that solve gameplay hurdles through unique mechanics. The Bubble Ray is a large, bioluminescent creature found in Deep Warm Oceans. It acts as a "living diving bell," bridging the gap between early swimming and late-game Conduits.
Unique Mechanics:
-
Symbiotic Oxygen: The Ray’s back has a honeycomb structure that traps air. When mounted, it creates a localized "Air Pocket" around the player’s head, stopping the oxygen bar from depleting. To recharge this supply, the Ray must occasionally swim through bubble columns or visit the surface.
-
Pressure Sensitivity: This mob thrives in the deep. It gains a 30% speed boost below Y=30, but becomes sluggish near the surface. This makes it a specialized tool for trench exploration rather than a replacement for boats.
-
Bio-Acoustic Sonar: By holding the jump key, the Ray emits a sonic ripple. For 5 seconds, any loot chests or rare ores within 15 blocks are highlighted with a subtle glow, making it the ultimate salvaging companion.
Balancing & Fantasy: The Ray is peaceful but terrified of Guardians. If targeted by a laser, it performs an "Emergency Dash," ejecting the player to save itself. It is tamed using Glow Berries, giving a new use to Lush Caves' resources. Its design features translucent wings and pulsing lights, ensuring it feels like a unique fantasy addition, not just another real-world fish.
